As mentioned in the top 100 websites for women…
My apologies if the 10am blog is a few minutes late this morning, it’s been a busy one for us here on Birds on the Blog. 
Yesterday, Forbes Women mentioned that we were one of the top 100 websites in the world for women. We were mentioned in the same breath as wonderful blogs such as
- Feministing (good chat about contraception and why 49% of US babies are unplanned)
- Dooce – stunning images as well as conversation
- 85 Broads - what a fab title, a membership site started by the female staff at Goldman Sachs
- Start up princess a site for women start ups in the US.
- BlogHer 5 years and still going strong, one of the founders is speaking at Cyber Mommy in the UK on 3rd of July.
Have you noticed something here? Many of the sites are from the US. Does that mean the women of the UK are not interested in ‘womens issues’? Why are there not more websites for women, by women in the UK? Are we just a nation of mummy bloggers and leave the business blogging aspect to big companies? Are we the last to adopt the digital revolution?

Great to see the work recognised… but I think it's even more use as a site than the recognition implies! It's not *just* a birds blog, in the sense that the stuff here is often (usually?) relevant to those of us hairy chests, too!

Indeed it is Simon. One of the things that research has shown over the years is that targetting women will also gain you males as well, but it doesn't work so well the other way around. Except on Blokes, where the comments are predominantly from women… perhaps that is because it's set up in a similar style to Birds.

WOW that's fantastic news. I am really pleased to see Birds on the Blog is being recognised and recommended. Very Cool and a big Congratulations to all of you!

I think women in the UK are interested in sharing blogs on womens issue whether personal or business based and I certainly speak to women every day who I know love to write/read and comment on such. Last to adopt digital revolution, I'm sure we aren't…. Come to think of it though I can probably list on one hand the blogs I frequent that are written by women for women.
I think perhaps there are more ladies out there just blogging on their own individual sites and perhaps are set in a more 'go it alone' blogging pattern, probably more by lack of knowledge how to or where to 'get together' than by choice. I know wonderful lady bloggers who would fit that description.
Of course good old girl power means working and blogging together lovely ladies become stronger, more supportive more effective more fabulous and help each other grow in so many ways. Women are great leaders and great nurturers. This is why bringing great women bloggers together as you have deserves great praise and why this site is so cool!

I have to say, Sarah, I had my doubts about the Blokes blog, because it didn't seem to me that many men would visit. On the other hand, because the two blogs are interlinked and the format is the same, those of us who read the Birds will often wander on over to the Blokes.

Firstly congratulations to Birds on The Blog, although I don't comment often (enough!) I really enjoy having a good read of the posts, you all do a fab job!
@Ces I run a blog exchange website – although it is still in the early stages and needs to get going a little (we are working on it!) it is a great place to start and to connect with other people and bloggers in the same industry and/or other industries. http://www.blogexchange.co.uk

Well done to all of the bloggers here, I know how hard you work to get good blogs out there to women. I am very proud of you Sarah I know how hard you work to keep this maintained.
It's easy to sit and snipe at people, it takes guts to go out and create something under a constant stream of critiscism from the so called professional writer. If it's that easier to do why haven't you done it?
