Babs does Bath – “It’s darling”
During my break (and I must admit that the timing was very much guided by the Fair) I thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the first ever (of many, I hope) It’s Darling fair.
Catherine Stokes of Mrs Stokes Vintage China and Becky Amesbury of Purple Sparkle Crafts got together with an idea and created a lovely, must-visit fair for all fans of vintage fripperies.
The Guildhall in Bath was a perfect place for the fair – there are only a handful of places, perhaps, in the UK that could successfully host such a treat, and Bath is definitely right at the top.
Having been welcomed in the most friendly fashion by Catherine, I then meandered through the stalls like a kid in a sweet shop – everyone incredibly friendly and one of the most mellow and gentle atmospheres I’ve come across in such events. Mind you – for me mellow and gentle pretty much sums up the west country, I’m happy to say.
From Catherine’s vintage crockery sets, to all kinds of Purple Sparkle crafty goodies – bath bombs, soaps, candles, to the prettiest cupcakes on the tea stall, to Random Vintage’s jewellery created from all kinds of everything, Nicky Snow’s prints, Suzanne’s fabric pretty things, Kay’s Eclectic Vintage linens, china and more, gorgeous handmade clothing and accessories by Faith Barber, the loveliest handmade boxes that could fill your house with colour, Sprinkles Sparkles pretty jewellery ideas, lovingly handmade items from Lilisina, such lovely hand-made hats, Shepherd’s Moon showing their spinning and handknits, Plump Pudding pretties, and the most tempting of Scrapiana (who’s blog shows you plenty of things to do with your buys), accessories from Iris, Rock Follies vintage, the chance to make something yourself with The Makery – definitely something to make time for, and more that I’m embarrassed to have forgotten – it was impressive to fit so much into the room yet it did not feel crowded – just busy in a very friendly way.
Having built up plenty of fans on Facebook (indeed, I’d not have known of them if Mrs Stokes had not created her Facebook page, the fair attracted a goodly number, sufficient to encourage Becky and Catherine to do another for Christmas! Hooray! I’ll definitely be there (and can then blog about the Christmas Fair at Bath too!).
As someone too cack-handed to be able to create such lovely things, I simply enjoy the joy of others who can. And I did shop! I never do shopping, but thoroughly enjoyed treating myself and my sister (can’t say with what yet – her birthday’s next week…) who will definitely be joining me at the Christmas fair…

I wish I had managed a weekend in Bath for the Fair. It sounds right up my street. I think I might wangle a weekend visit to friends nearby so I can come to the Christmas Fair… When is it?
