Well, I took your advice Elaine and had a good look around the photos on Juan's blog, and the more I looked at them, the more I 'got' his approach and style.

I really like the eclectic mix there, and I loved the colour and light on many of the photos. I bookmarked a couple that I found quite stunning :-)

Welcome, Debbie

Thanks for taking part!

I looked at your post linked via your signature here and it kind of made me think back to the 1960s and The Prisoner TV series:

"I am not a number"

That applies to every single one of us females!

Now you know the 'down' side - Want to be a bird? :-)

Putting someone or something on a pedestal is a dangerous thing to do. Not because your "idol" might not live up to your expectations, but because your "idol" may be someone just like you who experiences the same challenges and issues that you do ... only, perhaps, dealing with them more effectively.

Sarah, I would urge you to revisit this particular idol of yours, because it's evident that s/he has become a hugely useful inspiration to you (and if I am right in suspecting who it is, I couldn't agree more.)

Should there have been a temporary glitch in the messages sent and received between you and your idol that is, of course, understandable.

But in my view it's critically important not to "throw the baby out with the bath water."

Without giving any secrets away I happen to know that both you and this person I suspect you're talking about have one hell of a lot to contribute to the rest of us mere mortals.

Nothing would make me happier than for you both to do so, unimpeded, and with mutual support.

Until that day... Sz xx

Some people are there for a season. I have learned over the years that there are times to ditch those who, not only can't go with you where you need to go, but can't bear to see you move on. It feels unkind, destructive, negative and mean. But it's their problem. For years, choosing to lose someone else's problem felt like a betrayal, and I had to redefine the past to make it somehow bad, to justify my selfishness. But, often it wasn't bad. It was just...then. I'm fonder of my left-behind, just-for-a-season people these days.
Although, of course, some really were that evil. ;-)

Hi Elaine

I'm sure a present day Oliver would use the f word and heaven knows what other ones besides, in between kneeing the unfortunate individual he was up against in unfortunate areas of the body at the same time or who-knows-what... Ow! :-(

Anyway, I was intrigued about Juan from your write up (Brighton - my home town; London - my adopted town; Columbia - an exotic sounding origin; photography - a gorgeous art!) so ambled on over to his site.

His photo about my manor (Swiss Cottage) is particularly unflattering/ boring so I was ready to 'walk away' but, staying and looking around some more, I think this guy has a fun time with his photography that renders it inventive, refreshing and potentially contagious.

I'd say: Have a look. See what you think...

I am a bird in training, or a half bird....or a bird in situ...not sure the technical description, but it is great discipline to show up to write your blog post - and get your self out there....and being able to demonstrate commitment is always a good thing...and even when it feels like billy no mates when it comes to comments people are making contacting in different ways....and it's all about momentum too, the more you show up and do the more exposure you get and the more adept you get with your message...so if you get a chance become a bird...and get blogging! I really look forward to my Bird's blogging time and long may it continue ;-)

I agree completely.

While so many people are enduring so much misery not of their own making, perhaps we should collectively re-appraise our response to one death under these circumstances?

I also think that when a rock star dies of a heart attack or 'liver disease', we should be honest about reporting the root cause of that death - drugs, drink, smoking - whatever.
