#FF The Birds on the Blog

Follow Friday on twitter today, where people recommend each to other new people to follow and interact with. I have always found since I read a blog by Nikki Pilkington, that a blog full of my suggested follows works really well and my twitter stream isn’t filled up with huge amounts of #FF. Of course then we have the ones that I forget who mean a lot, so by writing a blog I get to save it in drafts for a week and add people as I go along :-) Now I have said that, you can bet your life I have forgot some very important people!

@BirdsonthBlog is a human operated twitter account, that not only promotes the Birds here, but also other fab blogs across the globe, you will get a big variety of reads if you follow us.

@btyie @DarrenPorter @blogmistress @LeighQuantrill @JustProfs @ATKirby @dd0s @smokeyjjoeseph who RT us and chat :-) Thanks, we appreciate it :-)

  1. I agree with giving a reason – I think you should follow X because…

    Wrote a post about this over at the @JustProfs site: Follow Friday – what is it and how should I do it? #followfriday http://bit.ly/cwVVFO

  2. I'm a bit of a dilettante with twitter, I drop in and out of it occasionally but am afraid to spend too long there in case it becomes another of my procrastination strategies.

    I do FF occasionally though, but think the blog idea is very sensible and makes it easier to say who you're recommending and why.

    But that also highlights why I'm not so good at twitter – I'm just a little too verbose :(

  3. I've never really got my head round FF: It comes across to me like a whole load of people shoving other people's business cards into hands of people they don't know who don't want them…

    I know that can't be right and that the misunderstanding is mine :-( but: Who takes any notice of them?

  4. I take notice of them Linda. They are 140 character testimonial that the other person is a person, engages and often another reason as well.
    Sometimes they just appear in lists of #FF and names giving you no idea about the people behind the tweets.

    By writing a blog you get to expand that list and suggest who is a good person to follow and why, which is what you are really looking for.

  5. I think a blog post is a good idea (thanks for my mention btw) but I also think a #followfriday tweet with just one name and a good reason why they should be followed works quite well as well. I have found some new interesting tweeters in this way. However, #ff followed by a long list of names is pretty pointless and somewhat annoying.

  6. you're welcome :)
    The only thing more annoying that the list is when the person RT's the list to say thanks!

  8. I never realised what FF meant until now, so thanks everyone for clearing that up for me! I'll look at it with much more interest and understanding. And I think I'll start with Birds on the Blog, as I always find something interesting here.

  9. Thanks Sarah, I have followed all those that I was not following. I agree that unless you give a reason why someone is worth following then it becomes a pointless exercise
