Love the one you’re with

Love“If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with”

Lyrics from the Crosby Stills & Nash hit early 70s hit, written by Stephen Stills  and recently reissued and sung by Will Young

Fond memories of this song first time round.  I was a real CSN (&Y) fan.

I truly love their folk rock. I was hooked from the start and enjoyed their  iconic appearance and close at “Woodstock”.

(I’m showing my age here aren’t I?)

What does love the one you’re with mean to you?

Were the lyrics written because Stephen was steeped in certain substances and feeling no pain?

Or

And there’s a rose in a fisted glove
And the eagle flies with the dove
And if you cant be with the one you love
Love the one your with

Was it that if your girl/boy friend is not around you can get it on with someone else and ‘love’ the one you’re with instead?

Or

Was it that actually the grass isn’t greener elsewhere and you might as well love the one you’re with because it isn’t going to get any better?

Whatever the interpretation this song has always resonated with me.

A bit about loyalty, being comfortable with familiar and true love bringing happiness and success.

Could it be that this is the year you “love the one you’re with”?  You remain loyal to your suppliers, you treat your customers as if they were truly special and the people you work with – well you love them too!

Wishing you love and prosperity whoever you are with. x

Lynn

  1. Thank you Lynn, I needed to hear that. My current boss drives me nuts, but she pays me to be a freelance writer for goodness sake, it’s what I’ve always want to be. Guess I can love the odd demands after all. :-)

  2. Hi Lynn

    What if

    “love the one you’re with”

could be construed to mean: “Love yourself”

    ? ;-)

  3. The green grass might always looks lush and inviting, but when we get to it, it has the same problems we were running away from because we’ve taken them with us. That’s why I always recommend starting with yourself, just as Linda wonders too

  4. Thank you for putting a nice reminder for us to enjoy the one we are with, even if they are making things difficult for us, just be positive.

  5. That’s always been one of my favorite songs and I am a big CS&N fan. I always interpreted the song similar to your last example you provided. However, I can see how others might interpret it differently.

  7. The lines are so true but most people don’t think that way and that is the cause of all quarrels. I think feeling of satisfaction and respect others’ way of life is the key to happiness.
