Make your blog posts answer questions for more targeted traffic
I just had an email conversation with someone that went like this:
Me: You need to find out what people are searching for and tailor your blog posts to that
Them: Oh people find me all the time by searching for my company name
Now, I covered this kind of approach in my article They Know Your Name, So What?, but let’s expand on it a little here.
If people KNOW your company name, then they’re not the people you’re trying to reach, They already know of you, can find you and will come to you if they need help (in most cases).
It’s the people who DON’T know about you who you want to attract to your blog / website.
Blogs are a great way to attract people searching for the answers to questions.
One of my most trafficked blog posts recently answers the question “What to post on your Facebook Fan page?”
And that’s purely because when people search on Google for ‘things to post on facebook fan page’ – that blog post usually comes up first.
The key to answering questions is to show up in the search results when someone asks that question (or variations of it) – you may not get zillions of visitors, but the ones you get will be targeted and focused, and you will be able to help them.
So what questions could you be answering in your blogs and attracting traffic for?
Start by thinking of questions you could answer that begin with the usual words: What, When, Why, Where, How.
I GUARANTEE that you can answer at least 3 of those types of question without thinking – and appear high in the search engines for those questions too.
Don’t believe me? Post your web address below and I’ll happily give you 3 questions to answer in blogs that will bring you traffic.
