I wouldn’t dare take Ms P’s name in vain or attempt to talk for her but I think she’d like this: The idea of people(?) talking about her as an icon in generations to come would tickle her pink…

The elite amongst you will automatically appreciate by now how Ms P et Moi are in the same stellar orbit (stardom, product endorsements, chat show appearances, fan club adoration and folk just wanting to be/ have a part of us, and so on being the norm) and that, obviously we move in similar star studded circles. I AM a little younger than her (though she’d never admit it so let’s keep that entre nous and who’s counting anyway?).

It’s good to laugh and to address issues that affect us now and well into the future. And that’s what I’m doing in my own way here.

The starry eyed bit of this post and light-hearted comparison with Ms P is down to the fact that one of my websites got noticed by the British Library this week and they want to archive it for posterity and give future folk an idea of how people lived – Come on: How cool is that?

And funnily enough it’s not one of my main sites – it was set up to help people at the crossroads of looming or actual job redundancy. I checked and see it’s crept up to being on page 2 of Google (international) for a search on redundancy UK, which is amazing (to me) since I’ve not blogged as much as I should on it. Maybe the Boss, Nikki or Babs would have something that would shine a light on that ;-) ?

I’d always intended that this site would be a conduit to something that for under a £tenner would make a real positive difference to those who could be a*sed to do something off their own bat to get back to earning. The irony is that the book itself says that the old ways of looking for employment aren’t enough – that we need to think differently and that this is one time in our lives when we do need to stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons.

It’s weird, isn’t it that it may end up being what I’m most remembered for?

Anyway, it’s rekindled my interest. I’m talking to owners of forward thinking recruitment agencies who can think beyond the end of their noses and immediate placement fees (they are few and far between, believe me) to see if there’s a potential hook up there for candidates they’re unlikely to be able to help.

And that made me wonder about our new government: Do you reckon there’s likely to be any new ways of thinking there or more same old, same old?

Does anyone have an ‘in’ to Ed Davey, the new Employment Minister or his boss, Vince Cable at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills??? Or any other ideas from your own experience as to how else we could actually make a difference?

And second – What do you believe your legacy is? (that’s not very good grammar, but you get the meaning). What do you want your legacy to be?

I reckon Miss Piggy’s got it sussed… :-)
