Multi-tasking is not for this Bird

Perhaps we are not told quite as much as it seemed a few years ago, about how great women are at multi-tasking and how rubbish men are at it. Even then I saw it as a male-generated myth that resulted in women trying to live up to being able to do several things at once when men got a pass on having to do that. Pfft and Poppycock, is what I say.

OK there are times when it is natural for us to have to do several things at once, most often as an essential to motherhood, I’ve found, but 10+ years into that and with my menopause in full swing (well hopefully this is as bad as it gets) I have so many things in my head that it feels like they pour out of my ears and I can barely get one thing done, never mind the other dozen that some might suggest I am capable of.

So, no – this Bird does not multi-task and I don’t care. It may be an age/hormone/”kids sucking the brain dry” thing but whatever it is, from what I have seen, one’s gender does not define one’s ability to multi-task.

So, let’s give ourselves a break and do one thing at a time, give that activity your full attention and enjoy it or just get it done.

One Response to Multi-tasking is not for this Bird

  1. I agree with you as I see so called ‘multi-tasking’ as nervousness, not efficiency. What I find very helpful, however, is alternating activity. Physical stuff such as washing up, (when I’m working at home, or as a caterer) can be truly lovely after a couple of hours of intensive work on the computer. And of course online marketing gets me scrubbing the pots even better!
