Personalised ringtones on your iPhone

If like me you wanted a personalised ringtone and found you needed a Mac or to live in the US to get one, this is the blog to make you happy :-)

I came late to my iPhone and after a series of hiccups, I finally got it!

Yay!, I sat down with it and started to personalise it and I found that I could only use the ringtones that were supplied with it – for me this was an epic fail. Yes, a fail of epic proportions… a bit like a laptop with no operating system – well for me anyway.

I love my contacts to have personalised rings, my daughter has Mambo No 5, it has a line that says ” a little bit of Jessica” and she loved it when she was 4 years old – it’s her signature tune and has always been her ringtone on my phone. On her phone I am Abba’s Mamma Mia. If I am driving and I can’t answer the phone, if I hear her song, I pull over and call her back. To have normal and dull ringtones was just not me and it certainly wasn’t my iPhone.

So after some epic moaning on twitter a solution was found, and that’s what I am sharing here, the secret to personalising your iPhone in the Uk (and possibly Europe). What’s more I am listing it in 57 easy steps… ;-)

  1. Open a tab for http://audiko.net
  2. Open another tab for Youtube.com
  3. In the Youtube tab, find the URL to your fave tune that you would love as your ringtone, copy it
  4. In the Audiko tab, click the add via URL link under the number one
  5. Paste the youtube url and then click upload
  6. Wait a few minutes and a blue slider will appear, the song you have selected will start to play and you adjust the slider to the 30 seconds of tune that you require.
  7. When you have your clip sorted,  click make it a ringtone
  8. then click send to iPhone when your personalised ringtone is ready (30 seconds)
  9. iTune will pick up the clip and when you next sync your iPhone you can add the music clip to your ringtones

Ok, so that was 9 simple steps.

It takes 5 minutes from start to finish and the hardest part of it all is actually stopping making ringtones for every person that you know….

Am I the only person to personalise my phone in this way? Surely not.

Remember to spread the word about Audiko, it’s a nifty piece of software and it’s free to use on the iPhone

  1. Apart from the fact that this is brilliant for anyone who’s totally in the 21st century and therefore makes me feel like a luddite since you lost me at 3…

This is the bit that scares the living daylights out of me:
…”and the hardest part of it all is actually stopping making ringtones for every person that you know…”

  6. Calling Mamma Mia… I don’t know how you do it! But, you do. It sounds easy but I’m not so sure.

    • Give it a go Lynn, and if you can’t do I shall add Mamma Mia and others to your phone when we next meet.

I add The Race by Yello to Kev’s, and the phone rings so often it sounds like the office is full of boy racers!
