P*ssed off with Pepsi

As you may or may not know, I drink a lot of Pepsi Max.

At the moment, I am at a mere 12 cans a day and some days I drink more and other days I drink less.

Pepsi are running a competition to win a Flip Mino HD, just enter a code on their site and you stand a chance to win in their prize draw. Great :) my daughter has just rounded up 60 cans. 60 entries and she would love a Flip, and so would the 4 year old, the 5 year old couldn’t care less but the cans have been divided up and allocated – one for me, one for you, one for me, one for you… and all the entries have to be in my name as I am over 16 (they have conveniently forgotten they are my cans in the first place).

She goes along to the website and enters the code. Then my name. Then our address. In total she has to enter 12 pieces of starred information, information that is essential before she can opt out of being sent offers, and submit the entry.

She has to do that 60 times as there is no registration facility it appears, and nothing that remembers all the 12 pieces of essential information.

Well dear daughter is most p*ssed off with Pepsi.

  • Is it because you have to be over 16 to enter?
  • Is it because you are not allowed bulk entries?
  • or not allowed entries from a 3rd party? (so her entry on my behalf is I suppose not valid).

No, none of the above. It’s because she has to enter 12 bits of information when as far as she can work out, the only thing relevant is name, email, date of birth.  She is annoyed that a further 8 lines of info are needed about me and none of them ask about my Pepsi consumption, so she thinks none of it is relevant. I agree and tell her to contact them and ask for an explanation, so that she understands why Pepsi need all the information they request.

She hits contact… and gets

So Pepsi, if you get round to wondering why no one ever contacts you, it’s because your page doesn’t work.

I hate it when big businesses make amateur mistakes.

So does my daughter and she still has no idea why you need an additional 8 pieces of info, and I have no idea why you do either, none of it is relevant to your competition.

  1. Sometimes I reckon these major corporates regard their customers as prize idiots with IQs in single figures. I think it was the late David Ogilvy who said, chauvinistically but with some merit, that “the consumer is not an idiot; she is your wife.” Pepsi would do well to take heed of that.

    Once upon a time, not so long ago it was a 30 can a day addiction. But I don't smoke, rarely drink and have never done drugs.. so Pepsi Max makes me like the rest of the population :)

  5. You need something like Shortkeys which you can assign info to 'hotkeys' and type it in quicker.

    I do see though that that's not the real problem – the real problem is them wanting as much info as possible to build their list.
