The 12 days of BirdsOnTheBlog: …and the Birds writing brilliantly

And so it falls to me to complete twelfth post and celebrate that the Birds do, indeed, write brilliantly. But first, let’s recap: altogether now, one more time…. *cue music*

One the first-to-twelfth day of Christmas my BlogBirds gave to me:

12 bloggers blogging

11 women working

10 business brainies

9 speakers sharing

8 coaches coaching

7 chefs a-cooking

6 ranters ranting

5  man-a-gers!

4 money experts

3 nature nuts

2 charities

…and the Birds writing brilliantly!

What IS BirdsOnTheBlog?

It’s interesting to see how the old media definitions are fading and blending into each other now that whole online concept has opened up so many new pathways for us to follow and absorb. People sometimes ask me just what BirdsOnTheBlog (BOTB) actually is. A blog? A women’s magazine? A news/features portal?  A multi-author blog?

The answer is all of the above, plus some. Thanks to this evolving online environment, BOTB founder and managing editor Sarah Arrow has been able to develop an entirely new, living, breathing, 3-dimensional offering that puts most printed women’s magazines in the shade. Why?

Because of its flexibility and immediacy, BOTB can deliver anything from personal and domestic advice to the latest political, financial or commercial information with equal ease and fluency. BOTB evolves organically, reacts immediately, keeps up with the news and ahead of the game.

Women’s magazines, much as I continue to admire and enjoy their content, sadly are shackled by the time lags involved with print runs; shorter lead times than before digital printing perhaps, but still creating the opportunity for stagnation and obsolescence to creep in.

A business orientation that doesn’t exclude femininity

Another thing that BOTB is able to achieve is a flexible and resultantly fluctuating mix of the issues women in business have to deal with every day … including posts about their leisure time, home life, personal issues and more as well as the hard-nosed business topics we all need to address.

What helps here, in addition, is that BOTB is able to offer information and advisory articles going back over two years and amounting to more than a million words’ worth of posts. What other online – or offline – media resource could compare?

BOTB really has taken the whole “women in business who also have a life” issue by the horns, and wrestled it into useful, peaceful and productive information.

Strong contributions in the future

As BOTB gathers momentum, subscribers and readers, we are in the enviable position of knowing no limits. Whatever is affecting the lives of women in business, our team of around 20 regular contributors as well as our popular guest posters will continue to know about it, think about it, research it and write about it – brilliantly.

Because we’re all volunteers, we can devote revenue to helping Our Girls in Uganda. With luck, as BOTB grows, we can contribute further and help more of these children who so desperately need it.

I’m proud to announce that as from January 1st 2012 I am Associate Editor of BOTB, as well as continuing as a contributor and running my own website, so I’m looking forward to increased participation in what has been one of Forbes Top 100 websites for women for two years running as well as being recommended by other sites and various publications including the renowned Elle magazine.

Here’s wishing you all our very best for a peaceful, happy Holiday Season and health, joy and prosperity in 2012.

Suze

  3. Very interesting page. People always advised before that when you blog, you just have to blog about one topic or subject and that is it. But on BOTB, it seems to cover a whole bunch of topics so it is refreshing and not boring at the same time. Keep up the good work.

    • Hi Donna and thanks for your comment.

Several of us on BOTB have our own, single-subject blogs in which we do post along much more linear lines. However the beauty of BOTB is that here we have a much more open brief – we can write on anything we feel strongly about provided that it is relevant to other women like us.

Although we do have a simple proof-reading and copy-checking process in place our “editorial policy” is very broad and easy-going: a multi-author blog by and for business women sharing ideas, tips, questions, heartaches, rants, appeals and much more.

      Rock on!

Revenge: A dish best served cold?

I’m not a  nasty person. I’ve never in my life deliberately set out to hurt someone, or cause them pain. But right now, and for the past three or four years, on and off, my thoughts have been filled with fantasies of revenge. Now I have the opportunity, and I can’t decide what to do. [...]
