It was a great surprise and a lovely compliment to be invited to joint the revered cast of Birds on the Blog, and it is with both excitement and fear that I start to write. The trepidation is because, being dyslexic, the writing part doesn’t come easy.

Were you one of those people that was always told they wouldn’t succeed, could do better, needed to concentrate more? Well that was me. However, as a long time portfolio worker [following spates of employment/self-employment] and with several different careers under my belt along with some professional qualifications[Chartered MCIPD, PgDip Guidance&Assessment], a variety of experience I find myself enjoying life as a proverbial consultant – specialising in HR and career management. Favourite client? SMEs building their business and wanting to employ the right people to work for them. More info: www.assessment4potential.com

The career side is very important to me as I truly believe we are all happier working at something we enjoy, in a place that’s right for us and alongside people we like.

Psychometric tools and self-report questionnaires, be it short quizzes or long detailed analysis, fascinate me and I love giving people feedback that supports and helps them with their own personal development either in or out of work.

On the personal side: Having being widowed when I was just 30, I had to bring my 2 daughters up whilst working and studying full-time, and I truly remember what juggling balls means. At that time there was very little support for working entrepreneurial women so was pleased to be a founding member of Women in Business which was the beginning of a long and continuous networking path which has culminated in Success in Sussex.

I am a frustrated francophile having lived in both Nantes and Marseilles a long time ago and will do almost anything to visit at least once or twice a year to maintain my fluency.

Of course I also revel in being the very proud parent of professional daughters with great son-in-laws and the grandparent to two delightful kids
