WordPress used to be known solely as blogging software. Now individuals and businesses are starting to use it more and more as their web site software. You can edit and add information easily. But what about the look of the site?
There are a lot of templates available, some free and others you have to pay for. If you can find one that you like it can make your site look professional. If it is a business site that you are working with it can be a challenge to find a template that fits in with your logo, business colours and image.
By paying for a custom template you can have a template that has the colours and images that you require. I do find that the nicest templates that are free (and some you buy) are popular and as you browse the web you find that other companies have used the same one. Whereas a custom template is individual for the company that has purchased it.
There are many people who create WordPress templates. All WordPress themes have one thing in common, a blog. Other then that they can have a menu or not, header area or not, and widget or sidebar area or not. If you don’t know how to code, or how to install a template working with a template designer can make your life easier. If the designer is a WordPress expert they can help you not only with creating a template for your WordPress site, but also advise you on add-ons that can enhance your site such as a shop add-on that is easy to add new products. Or adding in the capability of video blogging.
As with most things you can spend time playing around and learning, usually making mistakes along the way (hopefully not too costly) . How much time would it take compared to hiring an expert to customise your template and site? Think about how much your time is really worth. If your site is for your business would your time be better spent with the business and if it is a personal site, think of the hours extra you could spend with the family.
Would you rather have a website that looks familiar to people because it is used a lot, or a custom site individual for your business?
